Tooling Engineer
Job Description
Join our client as a Tool Room Engineer, where you'll oversee the tooling activities within their cutting-edge manufacturing facility. Job Responsibilities:
- Ensure proper maintenance and continuous improvement of dies and fixtures through preventative maintenance.
- Guarantee the delivery of quality products to internal customers, meeting their volume and quantity needs.
- Create and maintain a comprehensive tool room budget for supplies, die repairs, and fixtures.
- Oversee cost-effective daily operations within the department.
- Manage and develop the tool room team, conducting orientations, performance evaluations, and corrective action plans.
- Support the Environmental Management System (EMS) through communication, audits, and corrective actions.
- Develop a work order system to document tool history and maintain mold/die/tooling standards.
- Collaborate with design teams to integrate manufacturing best practices and safety into new production tools.
- Obtain mold/die build cost quotes and award business based on cost, timing, and tool type.
- Approve preliminary and final steel layouts, water diagrams, and part layouts for tooling.
- Validate recommended repairs and facilitate problem-solving for ongoing machinery and tooling issues.
- Specify new equipment requirements, provide training, and ensure equipment meets expectations.
- Work with sub-suppliers to ensure capable and repeatable processes for high-quality products.
- Participate in APQP meetings, new tooling reviews, and Hoshin project setup change over time reduction.
- Bachelor's degree in manufacturing, business, or a related field preferred, or 10-15 years of relevant tooling/tool room management experience.
- Knowledge of pressroom equipment, general fabrication, and machine rebuilding.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret professional/technical journals, financial reports, and production reports.
- Strong interpersonal, communication (verbal and written), organizational, time management, and prioritization skills.
- Ability to effectively present information to top management and employees.
- Maintains compliance with company policies, work rules, safety standards, and good housekeeping practices.
