Tool Room Manager
Job Description
As a Tool Room Manager you will oversee the tooling activities within the plant including the adherence to procedures and compliance with EPA requirements associated with processes, equipment, waste generation and permits. The Tool Room Manager is responsible for efficient and effective tool design and minimal production down time attributed to tooling problems.
- Oversee and manage the tooling activities within the plant, ensuring adherence to procedures and compliance with environmental requirements.
- Ensure efficient tool design and minimize production downtime caused by tooling problems.
- Maintain and repair dies and fixtures through preventative maintenance and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Manage the tool room department, including employee orientation, performance evaluations, and corrective action plans.
- Develop and maintain a tool room budget for supplies, die repairs, and fixtures.
- Implement a work order system to document tool history and support EMS internal audits.
- Collaborate with design teams to integrate manufacturing best practices and safety into new production tools.
- Obtain mold/die build cost quotes and award business based on cost, timing, and tool type.
- Approve preliminary and final steel layout drawings, water diagrams, and part layouts.
- Facilitate problem-solving for ongoing issues related to machinery and tooling.
- Participate in APQP meetings and lead new tooling reviews with the corporate tooling design team.
- Bachelor's degree in manufacturing, business, or a related field preferred.
- 10-15 years of relevant experience in tooling/tool room management.
- Proficient knowledge of pressroom equipment, general fabrication, and machine rebuilding.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret professional/technical journals, financial reports, and production reports.
- Effective presentation abilities to convey information to top management and employees.
