Sterling Engineering is seeking an experienced Tool & Die Maker to support prototype and short-run manufacturing operations. This hands-on role is responsible for designing, building, troubleshooting, and maintaining tooling used in metal forming and stamping processes. The ideal candidate will have strong milling and precision grinding experience, the ability to work independently, and a passion for solving complex tooling challenges.

Job Duties:
  • Design and manufacture tooling for prototype and short-run production applications.
  • Set up, operate, and troubleshoot kick presses, 4-slide equipment, and punch press tooling.
  • Perform precision grinding operations to achieve tight tolerances and high-quality finishes.
  • Set up and operate milling and grinding machines.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and GD&T specifications to determine machining processes and tooling requirements.
  • Inspect finished parts and tooling using precision measuring instruments.
  • Troubleshoot, repair, and modify tooling to maintain production efficiency and quality standards.
  • Collaborate with engineers to improve tooling designs and manufacturing processes.
  • Design and develop new tools and dies to support customer and production requirements.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work environment.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support manufacturing operations.
Qualifications:
  • Proven experience as a Tool & Die Maker, preferably in prototype and short-run manufacturing environments.
  • Strong hands-on experience with milling and precision grinding equipment.
  • Experience setting up and troubleshooting kick presses, 4-slide machines, and punch press tooling.
  • Ability to design, build, repair, and modify tooling and dies.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints and engineering drawings.
  • Working knowledge of GD&T principles and applications.
  • Strong understanding of machining principles, materials, and manufacturing processes.
  • Experience using precision measuring instruments and inspection equipment.
