Sterling Engineering is seeking a Test Technician to support product development through rigorous testing of mechanical, electromechanical, and embedded software systems. This role will be responsible for conducting a wide range of tests, debugging software and hardware systems, and ensuring product compliance with various regulatory standards.
Job Duties:
- Set up and execute tests based on written or verbal plans, record and analyze results, track defects, estimate test efforts, and support gauge R&R studies
- Operate and maintain manual and automated test equipment including environmental chambers, RF/sound/vibration systems, EMC test tools, and electrical instrumentation
- Conduct regulatory testing such as RF emissions, radiated/conducted immunity, and environmental simulations
- Perform regression and functionality testing using manual and automated methods
- Build and modify PCBs and test samples; assist in the development and automation of custom test fixtures
- Collaborate with engineers to maintain schedules, provide test feedback, and support fixture design
- Follow safety protocols and lean 6S standards in the test environment
- Maintain professional and technical knowledge through continuous learning and development
- Participate in team efforts to support product innovation, quality, and reliability
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering Technology with at least 2 years of relevant experience, or 4 years of direct job-related experience
- Experience in product testing of electro-mechanical systems, embedded software, and firmware
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel; experience with LIMS software preferred
- Familiarity with EMC, ESD, EFT, RF, and power surge testing
- Strong understanding of both hardware and software components in embedded systems
- Six Sigma Yellow Belt certification required; Green Belt or willingness to obtain preferred
- Willingness to travel up to 10% domestically and internationally
