Title: Controls Technician
Location: Romeoville, IL
Pay Rate: $79K-$85K

We are seeking a highly skilled Controls Technician (Level 3) to support and maintain the plant’s production electrical and automation control systems. This role involves hands-on troubleshooting, repair, and installation of electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and network systems. The Technician will lead and support maintenance activities across all shifts and ensure adherence to maintenance schedules, safety procedures, and food safety protocols.
Key Accountabilities
- Inspect, diagnose, and repair food processing and packaging equipment.
- Troubleshoot and support VFDs, PLCs (RSLogix, FactoryTalk View), HMIs, servo drives, motor controls, pneumatics, hydraulics, and electrical distribution systems.
- Lead and coordinate maintenance technicians across shifts.
- Install, maintain, and document changes to automated and control systems.
- Perform preventative, corrective, and emergency maintenance tasks.
- Support mechanical teams during production and downtime as needed.
- Participate in root cause analysis (RCA) and continuously improve equipment performance.
- Maintain detailed documentation and records using CMMS (SAP preferred).
- Ensure compliance with safety, GMP, and food quality/defense standards.
- Participate in training programs and contribute to technical procedure development.
- Communicate effectively with cross-functional teams, including production and engineering.
Primary Responsibilities
- Maintain, troubleshoot, and repair high-speed manufacturing and packaging equipment.
- Install and configure distribution apparatuses, grounding leads, and power cables.
- Perform system testing, equipment inspections, and documentation updates.
- Support equipment commissioning and modifications across production lines.
- Troubleshoot and teach troubleshooting techniques using laptops and software tools for PLC, VFD, and HMI systems.
- Work from P&IDs, electrical drawings, instrument loop diagrams, and mechanical layouts.
- Oversee mechanical repairs related to electrical/control issues.
- Support utilities including steam, compressed air, HVAC, water, and emissions systems.
- Travel occasionally for training or equipment support.
- Promote a clean, safe, and food-safe work environment.
Experience & Qualifications Required:
- Formal training in Electrical or Electronic Engineering Technology.
- Skilled troubleshooting experience using laptops and PLC, HMI, and VFD tools.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting electrical, mechanical, and instrumentation drawings.
- Hands-on experience with 120V–480V electrical systems.
- Strong communication and documentation skills.
- CMMS experience (SAP preferred), including writing procedures and logging maintenance activities.
- Strong mechanical aptitude with plumbing or basic fabrication skills.
Preferred:
- Experience with FactoryTalk View programming and ladder logic.
- Experience in the food manufacturing industry.
- Training in mechanical and/or plumbing techniques.
