Location: Remote (WI/MN Region) | Travel throughout WI, IL, IA, MN & Upper Peninsula of MI
Hire Type: Direct Hire
Salary: $80K–$130K/YR

Sterling Engineering is looking for a Licensed Surveyor / Survey Department Manager to join a growing employee-owned engineering firm supporting telecom-related survey projects throughout the Midwest. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys leading teams, mentoring staff, and helping grow a survey department while balancing office and field responsibilities.

Job Duties:
  • Lead and grow the telecom survey department while providing technical guidance and mentorship to the survey team.
  • Oversee telecom-related survey services including cell tower and small cell projects.
  • Manage project schedules, workloads, QA/QC, and survey deliverables.
  • Review and seal plats, ALTA/NSPS surveys, and other required survey documents.
  • Coordinate with project managers, engineers, CAD staff, and field crews to ensure successful project execution.
  • Perform office-based survey coordination, drafting review, and quality control (approximately 80% of the role).
  • Support field operations as needed (approximately 20%), including occasional overnight travel.
  • Drive continuous improvement by implementing new survey technologies and workflows.
Qualifications:
  • Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) license preferred in Wisconsin or Minnesota, or the ability to obtain licensure.
  • Leadership experience or a strong desire and aptitude to grow into a leadership role.
  • Experience with AutoCAD/CAD software.
  • Minimum of 7 years of progressive land surveying experience preferred.
  • Telecom survey experience including cell towers, small cells, ALTA surveys, easements, or FAA/FCC requirements is a plus.
  • Comfortable working independently from a home office while supporting field operations.
  • Willingness to travel primarily throughout Wisconsin, Illinois, northeastern Iowa, Minnesota, and Michigan's Upper Peninsula.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
Additional Information:
  • Remote position with the option to work from the Madison, WI office.
  • Approximately 80% office work and 20% field work, with travel primarily consisting of day trips and occasional overnight stays.
  • Company trucks are provided for travel, mileage is reimbursed, and frequent travelers receive a company credit card.
  • Travel time from your home office is compensated.
  • Salaried position (no overtime).
  • Interview process consists of a 45-minute virtual interview followed by an onsite team interview and lunch.
