Position Summary
The Survey Crew Chief leads and executes a wide range of field survey projects, overseeing daily field operations and guiding survey crews to ensure accurate, efficient, and safe data collection. This role requires hands-on technical expertise, strong leadership in the field, and the ability to interpret plans and resolve challenges as they arise.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead field survey crews on projects including topographic, boundary, ALTA/NSPS, construction stakeout, and FEMA Elevation Certification surveys.
  • Operate and maintain advanced survey equipment such as total stations, GPS units, robotic instruments, and 3D scanners.
  • Perform survey calculations using trigonometry, geometry, and algebra to ensure accuracy and compliance with project requirements.
  • Interpret construction plans, plats, and legal descriptions to support field operations.
  • Prepare and maintain clear, accurate, and detailed field notes and documentation.
  • Troubleshoot field issues and make real-time decisions to keep projects on schedule.
  • Coordinate with clients, project managers, and internal team members to ensure project objectives are met.
  • Enforce company safety standards and ensure compliance with all applicable safety regulations.
Minimum Qualifications
  • 3–6 years of experience in land surveying or a related utility-based field.
  • Valid driver’s license with the ability to travel full-time to project sites.
Preferred Qualifications
  • NSPS/CST Level II certification.
  • Experience with modern survey technologies, including GPS, LiDAR, UAS, and GIS.
  • Familiarity with CAD software for map and plan preparation.
Work Environment
  • Primarily field-based with outdoor work in varying conditions.
  • Requires leadership, problem-solving, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
