Title: Buyer (Mechanical)
Location: Downers Grove, IL
Direct Hire
Salary: $65,000–$75,000/yr (higher considered for strong candidates)
Full-time, on-site
The Buyer position is responsible for reviewing mechanical Bills of Materials (BOMs), selecting vendors, negotiating pricing, and procuring fabricated mechanical components. This role requires the ability to read blueprints, experience with fabricated parts, and strong vendor management skills. The ideal candidate will have purchasing experience in a manufacturing environment and be comfortable working in a hands-on, problem-solving role.
Job Duties:
  • Review and process mechanical Bills of Materials (BOMs) released by engineering
  • Select vendors, obtain quotations, and issue purchase orders for mechanical and fabricated parts
  • Negotiate pricing on both case-by-case and long-term agreements
  • Ensure all orders are delivered on time; expedite as needed
  • Collaborate with the Mechanical Engineering group to ensure accuracy of requirements
  • Notify management of cost or delivery deviations
  • Assist in developing and maintaining consistent purchasing practices
  • Build and sustain strong vendor relationships
  • Perform additional purchasing-related duties as assigned
Job Qualifications:
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and engineering drawings
  • Experience in purchasing fabricated parts (machining, welding, sheet metal fabrication)
  • Strong critical thinking, negotiation, and problem-solving skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and purchasing software
  • Experience sourcing electrical components is a plus
  • Familiarity with custom industrial equipment assembly is preferred
  • Excellent written, verbal, and organizational skills
  • Detail-oriented, dependable, and driven personality
