Overview: Sterling Engineering / Staffing is currently looking for a Staff Hardware Engineer for one of our clients in the Independence, MO area. Sterling has a rich history of delivering top talent to our clients. We are a nationwide Staffing Firm with over 100 clients and works primarily with Fortune 1000 corporations.
Job Description:
The successful candidate is responsible for coordinating requirements and application design with customers, as well as Product & Project Management and Field Service Engineering.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Coordinating requirements and application design with customers as well as Product & Project Management, as well as Field Service Engineering
- Ability to design and develop multilayer circuit boards with microprocessor and controls including Impedance controlled board layout, DDR3, High-speed bus, Serial bus, i2c, Spi, etc.
- Create Verification and Validation test plans for product development
- Create system design requirements
- Mentor Junior Engineers and Engineering Intern positions
- Support Manufacturing including but not limited to:
- Troubleshooting to resolution
- Designing in replacement for obsolete parts
- Training if needed in Repair/Manufacturing Test
- Design test fixtures, wire harness, and wire plans
- Ability to review schematics and understand how the circuit works
Education:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience
Qualifications and Experience:
- Minimum 10+ years of relevant experience in Hardware / Electrical Engineering role
- Proven track record of success in a culture that emphasizes quality, continuous improvement, high performance, accountability and solid communication skills
- Candidate must have initiative and a driven, high-performance work ethic
- Candidate must work well in a high-energy team environment
- Solid communication skills required
- Must be comfortable with interfacing with the customer on a periodic basis
Preferred Skills:
- 10+ years relevant experience in Hardware/Electrical Engineering role
- 5+ years schematic entry, circuit simulation and PCB Layout
- 3-5 years electro-optical design experience using microbolometer and pyrometer sensors
- Experience in the Railroad industry and Railroad electronics
- Experience in managing mechanical shock and vibration
- Experience in formal qualification testing (FCC, CE, UL, etc.)
- Knowledge of AREMA requirements and certification testing preferred
- Experience with the following programs:
- Mentor Graphics PADS
- PSpice
- Auto CAD
- Lab View
