Location: Remote (U.S.) | Travel up to 30%
Salary: Up to $154,000/year
Hire Type: Direct Hire

Sterling Engineering is partnering with a global manufacturing leader to hire a Capital Cost Estimator. This fully remote role is responsible for preparing Class 4 and Class 5 capital cost estimates that support manufacturing, warehousing, facility, and continuous improvement projects across the organization. You'll work closely with engineering, operations, project management, and supply chain teams to develop accurate cost models, perform economic analyses, and help guide major capital investment decisions from concept through execution.

Responsibilities
  • Prepare Class 4 and Class 5 capital cost estimates for manufacturing, warehousing, facility, and capital improvement projects.
  • Analyze engineering drawings, specifications, P&IDs, and project documentation to develop detailed quantity take-offs and cost estimates.
  • Evaluate labor, material, equipment, subcontractor, and overhead costs across multiple engineering disciplines.
  • Perform financial analyses including project cost modeling, NPV, IRR, depreciation, and risk assessments.
  • Research labor rates, material pricing, and market trends to ensure estimate accuracy.
  • Collaborate with engineering, project management, operations, and supply chain teams throughout all project phases.
  • Review vendor and contractor quotations for scope, pricing, and overall value.
  • Support project scheduling, value engineering, continuous improvement, and estimating process standardization.
  • Present cost estimates, assumptions, and recommendations to key stakeholders.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Construction Management.
  • 10+ years of experience in construction estimating or pre-construction supporting industrial capital projects.
  • Experience developing scopes of work and reviewing contractor and vendor bid packages.
  • Strong knowledge of manufacturing or industrial capital projects.
  • Proficiency with RSMeans, ProEst, AutoCAD, Microsoft Project, and Microsoft Excel.
  • Experience interpreting engineering drawings and performing detailed quantity take-offs.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Degree in Mechanical, Civil/Structural, or Electrical Engineering.
  • ASPE Certification or related estimating credentials.
  • Lean, Continuous Improvement, Root Cause Analysis, or Six Sigma experience.
  • Experience with Autodesk Construction Cloud, Bluebeam Revu, Revit, Navisworks, or similar CAD/BIM software.
