Job Summary: 

The Senior Estimator prepares cost estimates for various estimate disciplines and provides guidance to junior staff. Prepares cost estimates, completes pricing and cost benchmarking validations, and provides specialty cost intelligence deliverables. Utilizes energy and utilities industry experience to develop cost estimates reflective of local market and project conditions.

This position will support the development of estimates for all stages of projects. The estimator will engage with track leads and project management to ensure that all potential costs are included in an estimate. The estimator is expected to capture all assumptions and exemptions that were used during estimate development. This position is also responsible for maintenance and development of the Gas WinEst database. The estimator is expected to guide track leads through their portion of the estimate and provide support with calculations and best practices.


Job Duties:

· Examines blueprints and other documents and prepares detailed cost estimates. Performs accurate quantity takeoffs of available design documents.
· Leads the development of conceptual and feasibility cost model estimates utilizing historic benchmarking information and industry experience to develop complete early-stage cost estimate forecasting.
· Obtains accurate and up to date pricing information from databases, contractors, suppliers, etc. to utilize in estimates.
· Inputs estimate takeoff information for specific discipline into CATO and develops unit cost pricing.
· Works with architects and engineers to develop a clear understanding of project scope during preparation of estimate. Develops relationships with members of A/E firms and project team members.
· Reviews and finalizes estimate unit cost pricing to reflect current market conditions and specific project logistics.
· Reviews historic benchmark cost information and highlights variances.
· Assists senior management in ways to make projects more efficient. Seeks ways to improve accuracy and efficiency of tasks.
· Maintains and updates data library of costs.
· Prepares cost reconciliation between two or more estimates and explains variance cost drivers.
· Performs such other duties as the Supervisor may from time to time deem necessary.
· Complexity - Work involves complex or novel assignments requiring diversified knowledge of principles and practices in broad areas of assignments. Work requires the use of advanced techniques and the modification and extension of theories, precepts, and practices.
· Decision-making - many assignments are performed collaboratively with input from multiple stakeholders. Makes sound judgements on technical problems and methods.
· Work direction given to others - supervises, gives work direction to, and/or reviews the work of junior technical staff and/or others who assist in specific assignments.


Qualifications:

· Bachelor’s degree in Construction, Quantity Surveying or a related field, plus ten years of relevant experience.
· A professional designation such as RICS, CCP, CCM, AIA, PE, ASPE, AACEI, CVS, AVS, LEED AP, RA, or any appraisal licensure is preferred.
· Must be highly articulate, have clear and analytical approach to problem solving, and strong decision making abilities. Must have excellent communication and presentation skills.
· Should have intermediate knowledge of CATO, working knowledge of electronic takeoff including CAD Measure, and working knowledge of a commercially available construction cost estimating system such as Bluebeam, PlanSwift, and WinEst.
· Requires knowledge of local construction market in area of operation including pricing conventions and trends. Requires ability to prepare conceptual cost model estimates from limited information using local historic cost information.
· Must thoroughly understand and utilize Information Technology in the performance of work including Adobe Acrobat, Microsoft Office Suite, and Microsoft Project.
· Must have experience in estimating for energy, pipeline and energy utilities industry.
