Job Description
Position: Infrastructure Systems Engineer / Cloud Architect
Location: This is hybrid or remote for Northern Suburbs of Chicago, IL
I am seeking an experienced Infrastructure Systems Engineer with at least 5+ years of AWS Cloud and on-prem infrastructure experience to provide vision and direction as a Cloud Architect within our large enterprise.
The ideal candidate will be a trusted advisor, able to design scalable and highly available hosting solutions, as well as develop platform modernization, migration, and document hosting requirements.
This position is responsible for leading our enterprise's move to cloud hosting and will require a strong background in IaaS, VMware, VSAN, ECS, Windows Server, and other related technologies.
Overview of Responsibilities
- Design and develop highly scalable, highly available hosting solutions in the cloud, as well as on-prem.
- Serve as a trusted advisor and subject matter expert to our enterprise's leadership team on matters related to cloud hosting, infrastructure modernization, and migration.
- Develop, document, and maintain hosting requirements for the enterprise's cloud and on-prem hosting environments.
- Manage the deployment of cloud-based infrastructure and ensure high levels of availability, security, and performance.
- Work closely with development and other IT teams to ensure seamless integration of cloud-based infrastructure with existing on-prem systems.
- Develop and maintain disaster recovery plans and participate in regular testing and updating of these plans.
- Develop and maintain documentation related to the enterprise's cloud and on-prem hosting environments.
- Monitor and manage the performance of cloud-based infrastructure, including capacity planning and optimization.
- Work closely with security and compliance teams to ensure that all hosting environments meet the enterprise's security and compliance requirements.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology or related field.
- At least 5+ years of experience in AWS Cloud and on-prem infrastructure.
- Experience with IaaS, VMware, VSAN, ECS, Windows Server, and other related technologies.
- Strong understanding of cloud-based infrastructure and related services, including storage, networking, and security.
- Strong understanding of ITIL and other related IT frameworks and standards.
- Experience with automation tools such as Ansible, Chef, and Puppet.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with other teams and stakeholders within the enterprise.
