Sterling Engineering is looking for a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join a leading manufacturer of products that support and enhance audiovisual experiences. This role oversees all aspects of project execution — evaluating, organizing, executing, and controlling project elements. The position requires strong leadership, hands-on project management experience, and the ability to support upper management in their absence.
Job Duties:
- Execute project objectives by studying design plans, drawings, and product specifications.
- Identify and define robust technical solutions to design challenges.
- Redesign products for improved robustness and cost efficiency.
- Evaluate and track project progress to ensure timely completion.
- Maintain ownership of project cost and conceptual activities.
- Investigate design and performance improvements through testing and data analysis.
- Apply mechanical theories and design principles to support innovation.
- Evaluate mechanical and electromechanical systems through research and testing of emerging technologies.
- Apply principles of mechanics, thermodynamics, hydraulics, vibration analysis, and material science to meet customer requirements.
- Define testing methods and conduct product testing through Design Assurance Test Plans (DATPs).
- Perform CFD and FEA analyses in SolidWorks to ensure product performance and structural integrity.
- Design products suitable for harsh outdoor environments.
- Ensure designs are optimized for manufacturability, cost-effectiveness, and ease of inspection, assembly, and installation.
- Maintain knowledge of UL, ADA, and ISO 9001/14000 standards.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
- Minimum of 10 years of broad-based manufacturing and engineering experience.
- Proficient in quoting and cost estimating for both development time and part cost.
- Strong background in sheet metal, casting, extrusion, plastic molding, tubing, and complex assemblies.
- Experienced in leading projects and managing high-level customer communications.
- Electronic and electro-mechanical design experience preferred.
- SolidWorks 2020 proficiency required.
- 3D modeling experience (SolidWorks preferred).
