Title: Sales Engineer 

 Hire Type: Direct Hire

Salary Range: $120k-$150k (based on experience) 

Summary: This role is responsible for reviewing and supporting all proposal and pre-contract activities within the marketing and sales operations team. The focus includes evaluating bid specifications, estimating costs for equipment and engineering, assessing installation requirements, and determining turnkey costs and scope of supply. This position works closely with sales managers and the business development team to create clear, concise, and profitable proposals for client submission. Additionally, it facilitates a smooth transition of contracts from Sales to Project Execution. 

  

Responsibilities

  • Partner with Project Execution and Purchasing to refine estimating procedures, improving cost estimate accuracy. 

  •  Integrate technical feedback from Project Execution into proposals in response to RFQ packages from clients or architect-engineering firms. 

  •  Develop bid specifications for suppliers and contractors, outlining commercial and technical details for construction management, installation contractors, and external engineering firms. 

  •  Work closely with Marketing, Sales, Project Execution, and Legal teams to gather essential commercial, technical, and process requirements for effective proposal development and vendor RFQ specifications. 

  •  Create installation schedules, detailing engineering efforts and contractor requirements. 

  •  Participate in internal project kickoff meetings to ensure seamless transfer of information from Sales to Project Execution, assisting in early-stage installation planning and contractor communications. 

  •  Coordinate with Sales and Marketing teams to assess new product developments and their impact on constructability and balance of plant (BOP) considerations. 

  •  Establish and maintain estimating standards, equipment specifications, and defined exceptions for various customer requirements to streamline future proposal development. 

  •  Facilitate project handover from proposal to execution phases, ensuring clarity in scope, schedule, budget, designs, performance guarantees, contract liquidated damages (LDs), and warranties.

  •  Provide support for contract management activities, including reviewing contract terms, managing insurance and shipping requirements, coordinating letters of credit, and evaluating supplier qualifications. 

  •  Oversee component fabricators and external engineering firms during the pre-contract proposal phase. 

  

  Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Chemical preferred, Mechanical second choice, Environmental third choice). 

  •  5 years’ experience in proposal engineering, cost estimating, project engineering, or project management is required. 

  • Must be analytical with past project engineering experience. 

  •   Strong writing skills – will be writing proposals and specifications. 

  •   Manufacturing company experience, handling capital equipment sales process. 

  •   Water industry experience is helpful to have. 

  • Familiarity with power plant installation codes such as B31.1 and API 650 is preferred. 

  •   Experience in commercial terms, conditions, and contract management is a plus.
