Job Summary:
- Under the general supervision of the Plant Manager, this role serves as the horizontal process owner for Safety and Environmental Management Systems. The incumbent is responsible for fostering safe practices, reducing injuries, implementing proactive safety procedures, enhancing safety and environmental awareness, and developing and maintaining robust training programs.
Job Duties:
- Ensure compliance with safe practices, injury/illness prevention processes, regulatory requirements, and risk management (liability, Workers’ Compensation, property claims) at the manufacturing site.
- Enforce McCormick Safety policies and procedures, oversee behavior-based safety systems, manage cases, and analyze safety incidents and behaviors.
- Develop meaningful safety metrics for the Hunt Valley Park scorecard to drive performance improvements and reduce Total Incident Rate (TIR) through continuous enhancement.
- Communicate and translate organizational Safety, Health, and Environment objectives, goals, strategies, and measures tied to leading metrics.
- Lead Safety Functional Leads to conduct appropriate Injury/Incident review boards, develop action plans, provide training, and perform root cause analysis.
- Develop and implement policies, programs, and practices to promote continuous improvement within Hunt Valley Park and ensure compliance with federal, state, and local laws, regulations, and standards.
- Conduct safety audits and plan reviews to identify unsafe acts and conditions, program gaps, and best practices.
- Assist in facilitating annual Safety, Health, and Environmental action plans for the site.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Safety or Business.
- Strong knowledge and understanding of OSHA, EPA, and State safety/environmental regulations (strongly preferred).
- 7-10 years of Safety, Health, and Environment management experience in manufacturing, with a preference for food manufacturing.
- Proficiency in operations, OSHA, EPA standards and regulations, and Workers' Compensation.
- Excellent communication and diplomacy skills to guide and influence others.
- Demonstrated leadership skills for achieving common objectives within Hunt Valley Park, including interactions with external parties as a plant/facility representative.
- Strong cross-functional leadership, communication, and teamwork skills.
- Ability to effectively communicate strategy to small or large groups in a clear, concise, and professional manner.
- Presentation skills and proficiency in motivational speaking.
- Internal: All plant personnel (via safety audits, training, and team building through Functional Leader development).
- Internal: Production management (strategizing, coaching, and mentoring).
- External: Regulatory agencies.
