Job Description
Title: Refrigeration Technician
Location: Romeoville, IL

Shift:1st shift. 4 am (prep system) to 1:30/2 pm. Saturdays will be most likely on calls. Some Sundays when production is down.
Hire Type: Contract to Hire
Target Pay Rate: $30/hr-$40/hr

The Refrigeration Technician is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, inspecting, and repairing plant Refrigeration / HVAC systems. This role also involves general plant maintenance, assisting other departments with projects, and supporting the efficient operation of mechanical systems throughout the plant.
Responsibilities:
- Perform assigned work adhering to high safety and workmanship standards.
- Safely operate HVAC systems within the facility, with a focus on production and freezer units.
- Conduct Planned Maintenance (PMs) on HVAC units to minimize breakdowns.
- Effectively communicate with management to find solutions for efficient unit operation.
- Test and troubleshoot 110/230/460 volt electrical equipment, including motors, starters, relays, timers, panels, breakers, fuses, conduit, and wiring.
- Read, interpret, and use Electrical Control schematics for troubleshooting.
- Provide rapid response to malfunctioning equipment as needed.
- Maintain proper logs and records of planned maintenance.
- Inspect aerial lifts daily before use.
- Understand and adhere to established safety programs (e.g., lockout/tag out, ladder safety).
- Ensure compliance with electrical and fire regulations for units and the facility.
- Assist with general building maintenance as directed by management.
- Oversee and work with outside support services on large projects involving Freon units.
- Participate in Freon recovery and pump-down services on units.
- Maintain a clean and orderly work area.

- Mechanical Aptitude: Basic mechanical skills and understanding.

- Tools: Proper and safe use of hand and power tools.
- Work at Height: Ability to work safely on elevated platforms for extended periods.
- Basic Skills: Plumbing (soldering, PVC, stainless pipe) and basic electrical knowledge.
Qualifications & Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Basic reading, writing, and math skills.
- Universal recovery license.
- HVACR certification.
- Experience with Freon units/recovery.
- Welding experience is a bonus.
- 3-5 years of experience in a food manufacturing facility.
- Bilingual in English/Spanish.
- Experience with ammonia-based systems is a plus.

- Refrigerated and frozen areas.
- Food manufacturing, packaging, and warehousing environment.
