Job Title: Quality Control Lab Technician

Job Description:
The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring that all laboratory instruments used in the Quality function are maintained and in good working condition, performing method validations, troubleshooting GC equipment, and ensuring that test methods are executed per method specifications to provide accurate and repeatable results.
Key Responsibilities:
- Ensure all laboratory instruments (Gas Chromatography, Mass Spectroscopy, Mercury, and Sulfur analyzer) used in the Quality function are maintained and in good working condition.
- Perform method validations and prepare standards for calibration of the GC methods.
- Troubleshoot the GC equipment and propose solutions to get the desired results.
- Ensure test methods employed are executed per method specifications to provide accurate and repeatable results.
- Assist the Operations and Quality Assurance team by proposing non-traditional testing methods for identifying unknown substances, if necessary.
- Train, certify, and periodically audit operating personnel on existing and new test methods and lab safety procedures.
- Ensure standards and reagents are up to date and maintain adequate replacement inventory of all consumables, instrument spare parts, and applicable supplies.
- Documents results of all testing procedures and promptly notifies operations and supervisors of required adjustments to operating procedures.
- Verify that the results from the inbound raw material are properly entered into the database.
Requirements:
- 2 or 4-year degree with a focus in Chemistry, Analytical, Quality, or another related field plus 4 years of industrial experience
- Specialized training for GC, GC/MS, Sulfur, and Mercury analyzers is preferred.
- Chemical/refinery background a plus, Aerosol background a plus.
- Proficient in the use of Microsoft Suite or related software.
- Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills and be able to function well as part of a team.
- Excellent writing and reading comprehension skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Demonstrate the ability to assume responsibility without direct supervision.
- Able to bend, stoop, climb, and maintain balance, ability to lift 15 pounds’ dead weight.
- Willing to travel to other facilities across the USA to troubleshoot QC-related issues as required (less than 10% of the time).
