Job Description
The Process Engineer is an engineering professional who, working with little or no supervision, applies advanced scientific knowledge, engineering knowledge, mathematics, and ingenuity to complete complex assignments related to a specific technical field or discipline. The Process Engineer has knowledge of other related disciplines beyond their own.
The Process Engineer will provide technical engineering expertise for standardizing and improving existing processes and will play a key role in new product launches. They are responsible for leading the successful implementation of multiple initiatives for the development, design, validation, and project management of pharmaceutical manufacturing processes including new equipment procurement through installation, process conversions, process equipment lifecycle, all that meet Quality and Regulatory compliance requirements of pharmaceutical operations.
To be successful, the position will interface with Operations, Maintenance, Engineering, suppliers, and 3rd party contractor firms. Candidates should feel comfortable working in a plant environment. Strong communication and skills along with technical knowledge of process equipment are required ensure that the needs of manufacturing are being met on a consistent basis and ultimately help ensure robust, compliant, and efficient manufacturing processes are in place.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Responsible for supporting and troubleshooting day-to-day operations, capital projects, and pipeline products in fermentation manufacturing processes.
- Responsible for engineering and process optimization for fermentation manufacturing processes and related operations.
- Perform financial analysis activities to determine project cost savings and return on investment.
- Manage the procurement of process equipment.
- Assess current processes to reduce processing times and reduced utility consumption by measuring key performance indicators.
- Perform process design improvements to reduce the quantity of lost batches and improved quality of product.
- Review and develop PFD/P&ID as needed.
- Manage third party vendors to optimize detail designs of engineering projects.
- Delivers strategic and technical expertise to drive continuous process improvement that generate cost savings and optimize efficiencies.
- Assist with design of new facilities and systems from conceptual design, specifications, budgeting, scheduling, and construction management
- Develop documents for FAT and SAT activities for process equipment.
- Participate in FAT, SAT, the startup and commissioning of process equipment after design phase.
- Manage the life-cycle documentation of the equipment including generation and approval of user requirements, equipment and instrument specifications, equipment test plans, and system operating procedures.
- Provide. direction to contractors to meet project schedule and financial goals while ensuring technical success.
- Participate in procurement efforts for process and facility related equipment and facilitate change orders during the project
- Drive remediation work for design improvement or correction for process equipment and processes.
SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
Required:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Science, or closely related discipline, or equivalent technical experience plus demonstrated competence, with 5+ years of significant engineering and / or operational experience.
- Expertise in process piping, piping design, design specifications, and PFD/P&ID.
- Interacts well with diverse groups within engineering and maintains strong working relationships with internal and external collaborators.
- Listens to and understands others’ points of view and articulates tactfully and respectfully one’s own perspective orally, in writing, and in presentations.
- Works well with other engineers in a collaborative, fast-paced goal-driven environment.
- Possesses interpersonal skills to negotiate and reconcile differences.
Preferred:
- Technical background in Pharmaceutical or similar GMP-regulated industry.
- Experience with equipment such as centrifuges, fermenters, pumps, CIP/SIP systems, and clean utilities.
