About the Opportunity: Sterling Engineering's client, a leader in advanced Small Modular Reactor (SMR) technology, is looking for a Project Controls Specialist to join their Project Management Center of Excellence. This is a cutting-edge organization at the forefront of carbon-free energy, offering a stable yet dynamic work environment focused on high-complexity projects with long-lasting global impact.
Job Duties:
- Lead and manage the establishment of project controls governance and work breakdown structures (WBS) for large-scale, complex investment projects.
- Continuously analyze project performance utilizing Earned Value Management (EVM) methodology to ensure deliverables remain on schedule and within budget.
- Organize and balance schedule information and resource loading within the Primavera scheduling tool to meet project funding and timetable objectives.
- Identify and resolve potential baseline changes by maturing trends, gaining approvals, and implementing approved changes to the project cost and schedule.
- Minimize financial discrepancies by working with Project Accounting to support monthly accruals and performing audits of timesheet vs. payroll data.
- Motivate, train, and mentor junior staff within the project controls group, fostering a culture of knowledge sharing and technical growth.
- Ensure consistent reporting of high-quality earned value metrics, schedule performance, cost forecasts, and Level 2/3 milestone completion status.
- Collaborate with project managers and performing organizations to create and maintain integrated master schedules, incorporating external schedules as needed.
- Drive and implement innovation in project controls technology and software to align with a cutting-edge engineering culture.
- Prepare regular reports including critical path analysis and forensic schedule analysis to support claims and inform senior management.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Project Management, Accounting, or Business Administration (Advanced degree or AACE certification preferred).
- Minimum of 8 years of experience in project planning, scheduling, and project controls within a project-focused organization.
- Proven ability to utilize Oracle ERP, SAP, and Earned Value Management Systems (such as Prism G2) effectively.
- Strong understanding of nuclear quality assurance regulations and standards, including 10 CFR 50 Appendix B and NQA-1.
- Excellent problem-solving skills, with demonstrated experience in claims and forensic schedule analysis.
- Demonstrated ability to manage conflicting demands and priorities while maintaining a spirit of continuous improvement and safety culture.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to develop interpersonal networks and influence peers across a multidisciplinary organization.
