Sterling Engineering has an exciting new opportunity for a CAD Manager! The position is local to Columbia, MD offering a direct hire with full benefits.

 
Position Summary:
In this position candidate will be responsible for developing drawing on AutoCAD and MicroStation, primarily for civil engineering design firms. Additional responsibilities include reviewing designs from engineers and setting up proposals/bids for projects.  Candidate will have all QA authority before sending off finalized drawings to the client. 
 
Duties:
  1. Creating a preliminary and sketches of proposed drawing, utilizing CAD programs
  2. Modifying drawings as directed by client.
  3. Traffic control plans and/or permit drawings 
  4. Plans and profiles 
  5. Perform short circuit and voltage drop calculations. 
  6. Develop Bills of Materials and estimates. 
  7. Prepare, review, and approve proposals, contracts, or cost estimates. 
  8. Negotiate revisions, changes, and additions to contractual agreements with sub-consultants, and clients.   
  9. Analyze and design priority feeds. 
  10. Plan modifications to the system. 
  11. Perform all QA duties and review all drawing before being submitted to client. 
  12. Develop work packages to troubleshoot, repair, replace or modify 2D and 3D CAD files.
  13. Mentor and train younger engineers and develop more staff.
 
Requirements: 
  1. This position requires an Associate’s Degree in Drafting, and/or a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering Technology, and/or a high school diploma. 
  2. 7 or more years drafting course work or equivalent technical experience. 
  3. 3 or more years leading and guiding a team of drafters and Sr. drafters. 
  4. Experience preparing and proposing bids.  
  5. Proficient with AutoCAD and/or MicroStation. 
  6. Ability to visualize systems without the aid of the computer. 
  7. Knowledgeable in applicable codes, standards, and distribution software programs.
  8. Knowledge of the utilities sector preferred
