Location: Chicago, IL (Ravenswood area)
Hire Type: Long term contract (6+ months potential to go perm)
Salary: $40-55/hr.

Position Overview
We are seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer with experience in plastic part and product design, ideally within the medical device industry or another highly regulated field such as aerospace. The role focuses on product improvement and refinement, not initial concept design — taking data from testing and prototyping to make informed modifications to existing products.
Key Responsibilities
- Modify and improve existing plastic components and assemblies based on test and prototype feedback.
- Create and revise detailed engineering drawings, ensuring proper documentation and revision control.
- Use SolidWorks (SW) to design, model, and update 3D and 2D components.
- Follow established Design Control processes in compliance with applicable regulatory standards.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including quality, manufacturing, and testing to support product lifecycle activities.
- Maintain accurate documentation consistent with company processes and regulatory requirements (e.g., ISO 13485).
Qualifications
- 3+ years of experience in product or part design (plastics preferred).
- Proficiency in SolidWorks and engineering drawing best practices.
- Understanding of Design Control and its role in regulated product development.
- Experience with ISO 13485 or similar quality management systems preferred(medical device, aerospace, or other controlled industries).
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field preferred but not required with equivalent experience.
Preferred Background
- Experience in medical device, aerospace, or other tightly controlled manufacturing environments.
- Familiarity with part qualification, validation, and design verification processes.
