Title: Lead Process Engineer - Food & Beverage
Location: Bensenville, IL (Hybrid, must be in the office 3 days a week)
Hire Type: Direct Hire
Shift/Hours: 1st, 8am - 5pm (Mon-Fri)
Base Salary: $90k - $150k (based on experience)

About the Opportunity: Sterling Engineering's client is looking for a Process Engineer with a background in Food & Beverage to join their organization. This client is a high-ranking, full-service engineering, architecture, and management consulting firm that has been around for 75 years.
Job Duties:
- Perform engineering design and analysis on complex problems and provide coaching and development for less experienced engineers and designers.
- Participate in business development efforts, including client meetings and presentations to demonstrate technical expertise and industry knowledge.
- Serve as a Project Lead for complex projects by estimating work hours, developing scope, making staffing recommendations, and checking deliverables.
- Support the development of project scope, budget, and schedule for process-related work, coordinating with internal teams for equipment layout.
- Collect and prepare data, perform detailed engineering calculations, and author formal technical reports.
- Develop technical specifications and data sheets, evaluate vendor bids, and recommend designs that meet safety and reliability standards.
- Provide field leadership by checking installations and conducting problem-solving activities at client sites.
- Provide specialized guidance on food and beverage processing requirements and sanitary design.
- Interact with other departments and suppliers to obtain technical information and coordinate equipment procurement.
- Maintain professional growth through active membership in professional organizations and participation in technical seminars.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering required.
- 20+ years of experience performing basic engineering analysis and design functions.
- Thorough knowledge of food safety, sanitary design, and industry standards/regulations.
- Experience in the design, construction, or operation of diverse food processing facilities (e.g., dairy, beverage, confectionery, snacks, prepared foods).
- Experience with the development of process design basis, mass/energy balances, and hydraulic/thermal calculations.
- Proficiency in sizing and specification of process equipment (mixers, cookers, heat exchangers, CIP systems) and utility systems (boilers, chillers, water treatment).
- Experience with process flow drawing (PFD) and P&ID development.
- Familiarity with process steady state modeling (HYSYS, AspenPlus, etc.) is preferred.
- Excellent analytical, multitasking, and organizational abilities.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to lead project teams and interface with client counterparts.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license and auto insurance for occasional travel to client sites.
