Job Description
Job Title: Process Engineer - Injection Molding
Location: Buffalo Grove, IL
Pay Range: $100-$120k per year depending on experience.
Job Type: Full-time
Responsibilities:
- Lead the development, installation, validation, ramp-up, and life cycle management of injection molds and molding solutions for medical device components.
- Serve as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for injection molding systems.
- Develop a robust and repeatable process window using scientific process engineering principles.
- Implement statistical process analysis on new and existing molds.
- Document injection molding system set-up requirements in Process Information Books and one-point lessons.
- Troubleshoot process-related issues through structured DOE.
- Support new injection mold development, design reviews, and factory acceptance trials.
- Assist in the production ramp-up phase for new products and provide training as needed.
- Track process performance metrics and manage the ramp-up action plan.
- Manage multiple programs and collaborate with project teams.
- Investigate and benchmark new tooling, peripherals, and molding technologies.
- Contribute to the specifications for new injection molding machines and auxiliaries.
- Implement safety, productivity, and yield improvements.
- Provide continuous development of manufacturing techniques.
- Participate in root cause investigations and corrective action implementation.
- Support lean and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Follow safety procedures and maintain good housekeeping.
Preferred/Required Education/Skills:
- Engineering, technical degree, or equivalent.
- 5+ years of Process Engineering experience in high-volume plastic injection molding.
- Industrial manufacturing experience in high-volume injection molding.
- Experience in qualifying complex, tight tolerance injection molds.
- Clear and well-organized oral and written communication.
- Knowledge of statistical methods (Six Sigma, SPC, DoE).
- Excellent problem-solving skills using DMAIC methodology.
- Experience in a cGMP / ISO 13485 compliant manufacturing environment.
- Occasional travel up to 15 percent (domestic and international).
- Ability to lift 55 lbs.
