Title: Plant Engineering Manager
Location: Zumbrota, MN
Hire Type: Direct Hire
Pay Rate: $140K - $160K plus 15% bonus

The Engineering Manager is responsible for overseeing the engineering and maintenance staff, engineering functions, and site facilities. This role involves developing engineering plans to support current and future plant requirements, with a focus on areas such as reliability excellence, preventative maintenance, spare parts inventories, and work order systems. The Engineering Manager will work closely with plant management, employees, and serve as a liaison with various enterprise-wide functional departments including Quality Assurance, Compliance, Human Resources, Accounting, Engineering, Purchasing, Research and Development, and Risk Management.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Establish and manage the department’s budget, ensuring accountability for the monthly facility maintenance spend and addressing any gaps to target.
- Responsible for asset management, including maximizing utilization, maintenance, upgrades, and tracking of assets using SAP.
- Manage capital and expense projects, ensuring adherence to scope, budget, and timeline.
- Develop and utilize maintenance key performance indicators (KPIs) to drive improvements in plant reliability.
- Lead the implementation of Reliability Excellence as the Reliability Excellence Owner for the facility, leveraging Continuous Improvement (CI) tools, PM, and work order systems.
- Ensure the department’s activities meet or exceed standards set by Quality Assurance.
- Oversee parts inventory, purchasing, and inventory control processes.
- Coordinate with on-site staff and management to review and approve plans for new equipment installation and layout to optimize operational efficiency.
- Regularly engage with maintenance and engineering personnel to address concerns and provide support.
- Initiate and drive continuous improvement activities to ensure plant reliability and sustainability.
- Manage maintenance and engineering employees’ performance by establishing expectations and holding employees accountable.
- Coach and mentor maintenance and engineering employees to develop their skills and instill a sense of urgency.
- Foster joint ownership of the facility and equipment by collaborating with other departments (production, sanitation, shipping, etc.) and Regional Support functions (Engineering, Purchasing, Finance, etc.).
- Ensure effective business communication practices are in place to keep key stakeholders informed and responsive.
- Ensure all process, equipment, or product changes are communicated to affected employees in a timely manner, utilizing the communication and management of change process.
- Serve as a member of the plant Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) team.
- Work flexible shifts as needed, including availability to receive calls about plant issues outside of regular working hours.
- Adhere to all safety policies and procedures.
- Follow all company Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) and ensure compliance with corporate and regulatory food safety, quality, and sanitation requirements.
- Additional duties as required to support plant operations and goals.
Requirements, Education and Experience:
- Bachelor of Science in Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial Engineering, or a related degree.
- 6+ years of relevant experience in a manufacturing environment, with at least 1 year of management experience.
- High-speed manufacturing and food industry experience preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Excellent communication and presentation skills for all organizational levels.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint); SAP knowledge preferred.
- Ability to read, write, and speak English fluently.
- Strong problem-solving and organizational skills.
