GENERAL SUMMARY
The Packaging Equipment Engineer is a seasoned engineering professional who, with minimal supervision, applies advanced scientific and engineering knowledge, mathematical skills, and ingenuity to successfully complete complex assignments within the specific technical field of packaging equipment. 
 
The Packaging Equipment Engineer possesses knowledge that extends beyond their own discipline and is dedicated to optimizing and standardizing existing processes while playing a pivotal role in new product launches within the pharmaceutical industry.
 
To be successful, the position will interface with Operations, Maintenance, Engineering, suppliers, and 3rd party contractor firms. Candidates should feel comfortable working in a plant environment. Strong communication and skills along with technical knowledge of process equipment are required ensure that the needs of manufacturing are being met on a consistent basis and ultimately help ensure robust, compliant, and efficient manufacturing processes are in place.
 
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:
  • Design and execute packaging equipment projects, from front-end planning to implementation.
  • Develop innovative solutions for production lines, ensuring efficiency, quality, and compliance.
  • Hands-on role in troubleshooting and implementing equipment fixes to minimize downtime.
  • Coordinate bidding processes for equipment procurement, considering cost-effectiveness and quality.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams in the development of User Requirement Specifications (URS).
  • Conduct debugging activities to ensure proper functioning and optimal performance of packaging equipment.
  • Coordinate and execute Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) to validate equipment performance.
  • Specialize in thermal forming processes, with a preference for expertise in cartons, cases, oral solid doses, capsules, bottles, and granules.
  • Ensure packaging processes align with industry regulations, including GMP and FDA standards.
  • Regularly assess packaging processes to identify areas for improvement in efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and quality.
  • Implement continuous improvement initiatives to enhance overall packaging efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Collaborate closely with manufacturing, quality assurance, and research and development teams.
  • Effectively communicate updates on packaging equipment status, improvements, and challenges to internal stakeholders..
 
 
SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
Required:
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Packaging Engineering, or a related field. 
  • 3-5 years of hands-on experience in packaging equipment engineering within the pharmaceutical industry.
  • Proficiency in CAD software for equipment design and modeling.
  • Strong knowledge of GMP, FDA regulations, and other relevant industry standards.
  • Experience in bidding processes, URS development, and front-end planning for projects.
  • Proven ability to troubleshoot and implement equipment fixes effectively.
  • Familiarity with thermal forming processes and a variety of packaging formats (cartons, cases, oral solid doses, capsules, bottles, granules).
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills.
  • Detail-oriented with a focus on quality and compliance.
 
 
Preferred:
  • Pharmaceutical experience is preferred
