About the Opportunity: Sterling Engineering’s client is looking for a Senior NSSS Component Engineer to join their organization. This is a high-impact role within a stable company that has been a pioneer in the nuclear energy sector, offering the opportunity to work on state-of-the-art pressure vessel and reactor internal designs within a highly regulated NQA-1 environment.

Job Duties:
  • Lead and manage the design and stress analysis of NSSS components, including pressure vessels, reactor internals, and primary equipment supports.
  • Continuously analyze and evaluate components against the rules of ASME BPVC Section III (Subsections NB, NG, and/or NF) to optimize design parameters.
  • Organize and balance technical workflows for pressure, mechanical, and thermal loadings, including Primary Stress and Fatigue evaluations.
  • Identify and resolve complex technical problems by interacting with co-workers across multiple disciplines to ensure effective coordination of design activities.
  • Minimize design risks by documenting rigorous evaluations and ensuring all work meets ASME NQA-1 quality assurance and NRC regulatory requirements.
  • Motivate, train, and mentor less experienced staff members, providing technical direction and guidance in all areas of NSSS component analysis.
  • Ensure the consistent production of high-quality engineering results, serving as the technical lead for the NSSS Component Analysis Group.
  • Collaborate with engineering and quality teams to implement 10 CFR 50 Appendix B and 10 CFR 21 standards during the design and analysis phases.
  • Drive and implement the use of state-of-the-art methodologies, including extensive finite element analysis utilizing ANSYS software.
  • Prepare regular reports and technical documentation of evaluations, communicating critical information effectively to management and senior stakeholders.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (preferably Mechanical Engineering) from an ABET-accredited institution; an advanced degree and P.E. certification are preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years of full-time relevant working experience in nuclear component design or stress analysis.
  • Proven ability to manage and lead engineering projects with minimal oversight, acting as a technical lead for multidisciplinary teams.
  • Strong understanding of ASME BPVC Section III and experience utilizing ANSYS (APDL), Matlab, or Python for seismic and dynamic analysis.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to develop innovative resolutions to complex structural and thermal challenges.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead by example, adhering to a strict Safety Culture and influencing peers to meet high nuclear industry standards.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interpret project scope and communicate technical data across the organization.
