Mechanical Engineering Manager
Job Description
Location: Open to relocation | Travel: 5–10% Domestic & International
Department: Mechanical Engineering | Reports To: Director of Operations
We are seeking a seasoned Mechanical Engineering Manager to lead and inspire a talented team of engineers and designers in the design and delivery of custom automatic assembly machines. Projects typically range from $1M–$5M, with some reaching $25M, offering high-impact and complex engineering challenges. - Set and maintain departmental goals aligned with company objectives.
- Assign work, monitor schedules, and ensure project deadlines are met.
- Provide technical guidance on mechanical designs, precision assemblies, robotics, pick-and-place systems, bowl feeding, cam-driven and asynchronous mechanisms, and other automation components.
- Drive concept development, risk mitigation, and cost-effective engineering solutions.
- Mentor and develop team members, aligning engineers to the right projects and holding them accountable for results.
- Oversee internal and customer design reviews, ensuring deliverables meet specifications and standards.
- Maintain and implement CAD standards, PLM/PDM processes, and best practices.
- Evaluate new technologies and vendor products to enhance automation capabilities.
- Support HR functions including recruiting, interviewing, and annual performance reviews.
- Ensure adherence to ISO 13485 quality standards and support Quality Management Programs.
- Collaborate across departments, management, and external vendors to ensure seamless project execution.
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (BSME) preferred, or equivalent experience.
- 10+ years of experience in custom-built machine design, precision assembly, and automation.
- Proven leadership of engineering teams, including mentoring, task assignment, and performance management.
- Strong hands-on design experience with precision mechanisms, drives, conveyors, actuators, cams, servos, and robotics.
- Proficiency in SolidWorks, AutoCAD, PLM software, EPlan, MS Office Suite, and Salesforce.
- Strong understanding of mechanical engineering standards, fabrication, assembly, and technical problem-solving.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to collaborate with internal teams, clients, and vendors.
- Willingness to relocate and travel domestically and internationally as needed.
