A leading global manufacturer and distributor of engineered plastic, metal, and molded components is seeking a technically strong Sales Engineer to join its U.S. commercial team based in the Western Chicago suburbs. This organization supplies a broad portfolio of standard and custom components used across equipment manufacturing, automotive, electronics, industrial machinery, medical devices, construction, and renewable-energy markets.

With a deep catalog of protective caps/plugs, fasteners, access hardware, cable-management products, PCB hardware, and custom-molded solutions, the company is known for its massive product breadth, rapid availability, flexible customization capabilities, and global supply-chain footprint. Their model combines global engineering/manufacturing strength with localized support, enabling fast service, cost-effective tooling, and tailored solutions for OEMs, distributors, and integrators.

Key Responsibilities:

Technical & Application Support:

  • Provide practical design recommendations that help customers integrate components into their equipment and assemblies.
  • Support Sales with approximate pricing, tooling estimates, and feasibility for customized molded or metal components.
  • Outline technical and commercial value drivers that demonstrate how the company’s product portfolio solves customer challenges.
  • Deliver “hassle-free customer service” by responding to technical inquiries, reviewing drawings, and assisting with application issues.
  • Maintain a comprehensive understanding of the full component range and use this knowledge to maximize solution offerings.

Cross-Functional Collaboration:

  • Engage with Sales at all levels to review new opportunities, customer requirements, and solution pathways.
  • Collaborate with Product Management to support training, product development initiatives, and portfolio enhancements.
  • Provide application insights, competitive feedback, and VOC (Voice of Customer) data to engineering, marketing, and innovation teams.
  • Report key application details and customer insights to internal stakeholders for continuous improvement and strategic planning

Commercial Alignment & Reporting:

  • Help grow the business in alignment with the commercial plan through technical engagement and practical solution development.
  • Provide monthly activity summaries, KPIs, and customer updates to the Commercial Director.
  • Support business-development efforts by identifying new applications, industries, or component opportunities.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support the commercial, product, and technical teams.

Ideal Background:

  • Experience in manufacturing, engineered components, plastics, metals, or related technical product environments.
  • Ability to interpret drawings, understand technical requirements, and translate customer needs into viable component solutions.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate closely with Sales, Product Management, Engineering, and customers.
  • Customer-centric mindset with a proactive and problem-solving approach.
  • Familiarity with tooling, molding processes, custom part development, or distributor/OEM support environments is highly valued.
