Job Summary:
A manufacturing company is seeking a Production Design Engineer to join their team. This role involves designing custom hydraulic cylinders, valves, and pumps. Responsibilities include quoting, product development, design, manufacturing routing, and product verification. Additionally, the engineer will contribute to the design and development of fixturing, equipment, tooling, and processes for new product designs and continuous improvement initiatives.

Job Duties:
  • Prepare quotes for new and existing products.
  • Collaborate with customers throughout the design and development process to confirm requirements, needs, and key characteristics.
  • Assess the production feasibility of new products during the design and quoting phases.
  • Participate in product design reviews.
  • Work with operators to develop necessary fixturing and provide tooling quotes when required.
  • Establish production routings and requirements.
  • Communicate key design characteristics to the quality team during design release.
  • Design and enhance fixturing across all departments, including Machining, Turning, Welding, Honing, Grinding, Assembly, and Paint.
  • Develop and improve in-house production equipment and processes.
  • Provide support and guidance to production operators.
  • Track requests and initiate production and process improvements.
  • Evaluate the feasibility of Engineering Change Notices (ECNs) from internal production, customers, and process improvement tracking.
  • Design, oversee, and participate in testing for new and existing products.

Qualifications:
  • Prior experience in designing and developing hydraulic cylinders.
  • Background in a manufacturing setting with hands-on access to production facilities, frequent collaboration with production teams, and coordination with department leads.
  • Proficiency in Autodesk Inventor and Autodesk Vault.
  • Knowledge of production costing, efficiency, and manufacturing processes.
  • Experience working in a high-mix, low-volume manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to take initiative, manage daily tasks, optimize processes, and maintain organization independently.
