Job Description
- Performs complex design tasks under the general guidance and supervision of a senior designer or engineer.
- Assists engineers in the development of drawings and detailed mechanical or electrical drawings of components and assemblies
- Makes layouts of assemblies and detail parts of devices, mechanisms, and structures.
- Checks completed layouts and drawings for clarity, completeness, conformity to standards, procedures, specifications, and accuracy of calculations and dimensioning
- Develops bills of material and related information.
- May check the work of entry-level drafters to ensure accuracy of details, drawings and calculations.
- Designs components or portions of a system to develop or improve products and facilitate manufacturing operations. Investigates pertinent design factors such as ease of manufacture, availability of materials and equipment, interchangeability, replaceability, and cost.
- Coordinates with other departments affected by design development.
- Often acts as a facilitator and team lead
Qualifications:
- Associates degree in engineering or related technical discipline.
- Minimum 5 years of detail and design experience using the appropriate 3D CAD modeling software required.
- Daily usage experience level with PDM or similar Product Life Cycle Management Software required.
- Understands and follows standard work methods and design processes to prepare preliminary designs.
- Extracts engineering data from defined sources.
- Advanced use of elementary algebra and geometry
- Develops and reviews designs by extracting and analyzing engineering data.
- May select and recommends procedures in the design and prepares preliminary design for engineering approval.
- Applies engineering methods in the research and development of new products.
- Possesses strong verbal and written communications skills.
