Mechanical Design Engineer
Job Description
Location: Roseville, MI 48066
Hire Type: Contract (3–6 months, with possible extension)
Schedule: Onsite, Monday–Friday | 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM
Pay Rate: $30–$36/hour (flexible based on experience)
- Design and detail conveyor systems and components, including overhead conveyors, chain conveyors, and roller conveyors (MDR, CDLR).
- Perform engineering calculations for drives, shafts, cylinders, bearings, and other mechanical components to ensure system performance and reliability.
- Create 2D and 3D models and drawings using SolidWorks and AutoCAD.
- Develop AutoCAD conveyor layouts to support efficient material flow and system operation.
- Create Assembly Bills of Materials (ABMs) and Work Orders for manufacturing and purchasing teams.
- Review and verify drawings created by other team members prior to release to manufacturing or subcontractors.
- Perform chain pull calculations, including drive balancing and drive dropout capabilities based on customer requirements.
- Provide Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) and Finite Element Analysis (FEA) documentation as required.
- Collaborate with project teams to resolve technical challenges and meet project deadlines.
- Support project managers and installation teams during system deployment and commissioning.
- Conduct site visits for meetings, field assessments, and on-site support as needed.
- Coordinate with and oversee engineering subcontractors on assigned projects.
- Ensure designs comply with current customer specifications, standards, and revisions.
- Identify scope changes and prepare detailed change order documentation.
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field (equivalent experience will be considered).
- Minimum of 5 years of relevant mechanical or conveyor design experience.
- Strong experience with conveyor system design.
- Expert-level proficiency in SolidWorks and AutoCAD.
- Knowledge of GD&T.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently while also collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams.
- Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel, including preparation of RFIs and technical documentation.
- Strong communication skills with a professional, proactive approach.
- Ability to prioritize tasks, manage deadlines, and adapt to changing project needs.
