Job Description
Title: Maintenance Technion
Location: Chicago Heights 60411
Shift/hours: 1st Shift 6am-2:30pm
Location: Chicago Heights, IL
Pay Rate: $32/hr
Responsible for performing highly diversified duties to install, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain production and facility equipment, ensuring safety and maintaining productive maintenance systems. This position plays a crucial role in upholding Food Safety and Quality Standards while ensuring that equipment operates effectively and efficiently.
Key Accountabilities
- Ensure products meet company standards and specifications.
- Complete, legible, and accurate documentation.
- Follow all company Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), and maintain Food Safety and Quality Standards daily.
- Comply with company Allergen, Food Defense, and HACCP policies.
- Communicate any Food Safety or equipment concerns with supervision.
- Follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for assigned areas.
- Maintain effective working relationships with colleagues.
- Avoid abuse of equipment; work with supervision and maintenance to ensure equipment is in optimal working condition.
- Work in a fast-paced environment and comply with safety policies, using Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as needed.
- Correctly weigh and record any waste for disposal.
- Maintain a clean work area and ensure proper care of machinery.
- Respond to radio calls immediately, prioritizing tasks with supervisor or manager input.
- Maintain regular, predictable attendance.
Responsibilities
- Ensure the quality, legality, and safety of each product, as well as the processes used in manufacturing.
- Keep machine guarding in place and ensure equipment operates safely.
- Perform repairs and preventive maintenance for equipment, buildings, offices, and grounds.
- Assist with set-up, start-up, operation, and shutdown of equipment, including disassembly.
- Collaborate with the team to develop operating parameters and procedures.
- Participate in shift handoff discussions with incoming and outgoing technicians.
- Focus on preventative maintenance, equipment observations, and continuous improvement during downtime.
- Complete “other duties as may be assigned or volunteered for.”
Technical Skills
- Create notifications and log time on work orders in the CMMS.
- Provide feedback to update procedures and identify deficiencies noted in SAP.
- Semi-skilled in mechanical, electrical, and plumbing work.
- Semi-skilled in troubleshooting processing and packing equipment.
- Basic understanding of PLCs and VFDs, with diagnostic skills.
- Semi-skilled in ARC, MIG, and TIG welding.
- Experience in fabricating parts and operating shop equipment (mill, lathe, brake, press).
- Knowledge of 5S, Lean manufacturing, and formalized problem-solving techniques.
- At least 3-7 years of progressive experience troubleshooting, repairing, and conducting preventative maintenance in high-volume, high-automation manufacturing environments.
- Advanced knowledge of electrical systems (including PLC and A/C drives), as well as hydraulic and mechanical systems.
- Ability to work overtime as needed to support departmental or production needs.
Required
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Experience in general maintenance, including the ability to identify and troubleshoot electrical, plumbing, and mechanical issues or equipment failures.
Preferred
- Formal training in mechanical, electrical, and/or plumbing techniques.
- Experience in the food industry.
