Job Description
Title: Maintenance Manager
Location: Bridgeton, NJ
Target pay rate: $125K - $145K
General Purpose:
Manage and provide leadership, direction, and support to the maintenance department to ensure the effective delivery of maintenance services in compliance with company policies, OSHA regulations, and applicable laws. Ensure that safety, quality, yields, throughput, and efficiencies are met. Resolve issues in a timely manner. Directly responsible for meeting or exceeding all Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for their respective department, while also supporting plant and business-wide KPIs.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Ensure staffing strategies align with business needs and KPIs are consistently met.
- Provide hands-on technical leadership and training to troubleshoot, diagnose, and resolve electro-mechanical issues.
- Collaborate with other Leadership Team Members on key initiatives as they arise.
- Participate actively in plant Leadership Team meetings.
- Assist project managers with major projects, ensuring proper planning and project management procedures are followed. Support project startups with preventive maintenance procedures, master schedules, and spare parts availability.
- Ensure new hires receive proper mentoring and effective performance reviews.
- Develop and manage a maintenance department capable of maintaining all equipment and facilities in safe and efficient working conditions.
- Maintain operating equipment within the specifications and tolerances established by equipment vendors/manufacturers.
- Develop objectives and performance standards for maintenance department activities and projects to meet departmental, divisional, and corporate goals.
- Execute a preventive maintenance program to minimize unscheduled downtime.
- Serve as an escalation point of contact for emergency maintenance requests.
- Consult with engineering and management on modifications or replacement of equipment to improve operations and reduce maintenance costs.
- Analyze cost studies for new equipment proposals and make recommendations to management.
- Plan and control spare parts and maintenance supply inventories.
- Implement cost-reduction measures to control expenses related to repairs, utilities, pretreatment, and maintenance. May be involved in developing the capital budget.
- Keep management informed of issues impacting equipment and facility performance.
- Stay current with industry regulations and codes related to mechanical and electrical systems design and operation.
- Develop procedures and policies for the maintenance department.
- Oversee department schedules to maximize preventive and repair services while minimizing unnecessary overtime expenses.
- Manage assigned employees, including recruitment, supervision, scheduling, development, evaluation, and performance management. Administer discipline consistently and fairly in accordance with company policies. Resolve employee grievances in collaboration with Human Resources and plant management.
- Follow and promote good manufacturing practices (GMP), and ensure compliance with all regulatory, food safety, quality, and sanitation requirements.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
- Undergraduate degree in Engineering or Industrial Technology, or relevant technical experience (or equivalent combination of experience and education) preferred.
- 7-10 years of recent experience in a progressive technical leadership role within a manufacturing or industrial environment; 1+ year of managerial experience preferred.
- Manufacturing operations or production experience in the dairy industry preferred.
- Experience with formalized Continuous Improvement processes (e.g., TPM, Lean Manufacturing) is a plus.
- Relevant certifications and/or licenses (e.g., electrical, welding, boiler, refrigeration, compressed air, wastewater, or plumbing) preferred.
