Job Summary:
The I&C Manager oversees all instrumentation and controls operations, leading a team of I&C Technicians and Support Staff to ensure the efficient installation, testing, maintenance, and troubleshooting of control systems. This role focuses on optimizing plant performance, enhancing system reliability, and driving preventative maintenance and repair initiatives. The I&C Manager also ensures compliance with safety and environmental regulations while collaborating with other departments to support operational goals and improve team coordination.
Job Duties:
- Lead and manage the I&C team, including technicians and support staff.
- Develop and implement training programs to enhance team expertise in control systems and instrumentation.
- Work on-site in a power plant environment, performing hands-on tasks independently or with the Cokenergy team to ensure efficiency and safety.
- Plan, prioritize, and oversee process automation system maintenance to optimize steam and electrical power production, ensuring boiler and environmental system reliability.
- Promote a safe work environment by enforcing safety protocols and addressing hazards.
- Foster strong communication and collaboration across teams, including Union Operators and Crafts.
- Oversee electrical, process control, and automation system maintenance, including installation, preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, testing, and calibration, ensuring documentation and peak performance.
- Collaborate with Area Managers on routine and special engineering projects.
- Supervise troubleshooting and maintenance of DCS and PLC systems, including Bailey Infi-90, Rockwell ControlLogix, and Schneider Electric Modicon, while utilizing eDNA and Pi historians for performance evaluation.
- Oversee workstation computers and related equipment maintenance.
- Ensure compliance with Primary Energy Management’s operational standards.
- Assist in annual budgeting for maintenance-related parts and materials.
- Schedule and manage preventive maintenance (PM) calibration for field instrumentation.
- Identify and report required spare parts for efficient plant operation and improvement initiatives to Area Managers and direct managers.
Qualifications:
- 5–10 years in instrumentation and controls, including supervisory or leadership roles, with a strong technical background.
- Extensive experience managing I&C operations, preferably in Industrial Energy, Power Generation, or Utility sectors.
- Proficiency in process control and automation systems, including DCS and PLCs (Rockwell, Allen Bradley, and/or Modicon).
- Strong computer skills, particularly in Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook), and expertise in industrial networking protocols (Modbus, OPC, Hart).
- In-depth understanding of VFDs, PID controllers, transmitters (temperature, pressure, flow), proximity probes, and position sensors.
- Proven ability to conduct root cause analysis and implement corrective actions effectively.
- Strong background in electrical, electronic, and pneumatic controls with advanced troubleshooting skills.
- Familiarity with steam turbines, boilers, environmental control systems, and water treatment plants.
- Experience with Maximo or similar CMMS platforms.
- Solid understanding of environmental and safety regulations and compliance programs.
