Job Summary:
This role involves the design of instrumentation, controls, and electrical drawings for engineered pipeline facilities. The ideal candidate will have at least six years of experience in designing natural gas pipelines and related facilities, with proficiency in drafting software such as AutoCAD, Plant 3D, and/or CADWorx. The primary focus will be on facility instrumentation and electrical system components. A strong understanding of pressure and temperature transmitter installations, electrical terminations, cable and conduit layouts, and grounding systems is essential. The designer will also participate in design reviews for complex projects and provide guidance and oversight to junior drafters and designers.
Job Duties:
• Solid understanding of the National Electrical Code (NEC).
• Skilled in interpreting and applying electrical standards for both engineering and construction design projects.
• Proficient in reviewing flow computer panel drawings and developing loop diagrams for instrument installation.
• Capable of reading and interpreting P&IDs and independently producing detailed instrument and electrical design drawings.
• Ability to create installation diagrams and details for low voltage AC circuits (120 VAC) and associated equipment.
• Knowledge of construction practices related to conduit and cable installation, with the ability to develop accurate and detailed drawings.
• Hands-on experience with the following design tools and software:
o AutoCAD (Computer-Aided Design & Drafting)
o CADWorx
o Plant 3D
• Able to revise and update drawings based on engineer input.
• Ensure that all design work complies with established processes, client requirements, and quality standards.
• Consistently deliver finalized and verified drawing files within assigned deadlines.
• Communicate effectively with Project Managers regarding technical concerns, allotted project hours, timelines, and any potential scheduling delays.
• Support team development by training and mentoring junior drafters and designers.
Qualifications:
• Associates degree or equivalent experience in Design and Drafting Technology.
• Strong working knowledge of AutoCAD
• Minimum of 6 years of prior experience, concentration in Natural Gas Transmission
• Knowledge of SmallWorld, ESRI or other GIS platforms is a plus
• Strong work ethic, self-driven and a desire to work in a production environment is very important
