Job Description

Title: HPC Linux/Unix System Administrator

Location: On-site (Lemont, IL 60439)

Duration and hire type: 12+ month contract to hire


I am looking for a Linux/Unix System Administrator to assist with the configuration and daily operations of the company's large HPC system. The successful candidate will join this world-class science and engineering research team to provide support within the larger software and operational ecosystem at the facility. With an emphasis on OS installation, upgrades, package building and management, common service applications, and troubleshooting.



Requirements:

  • 3+ years of experience as a Linux/Unix System Administrator
  • Experience with OS installation and upgrading, package building and management, common services and applications, and troubleshooting
  • Experience with configuration management tools such as Puppet, Chef, Ansible or equivalent
  • Experience with version control platforms such as Git, BitBucket, or SVN
  • Experience with software packaging, building software from source, and dynamic linking
  • Working knowledge of scripting languages
  • Ability to write concise documentation
  • Ability to work effectively as a member of a team
  • Flexibility in handling assignments and working on several projects simultaneously



Preferred:

  • Knowledge of HPC systems architecture and workflows
  • Knowledge of the scientific applications
  • Knowledge of parallel and cluster file systems such as Lustre and GPFS
  • Understanding of MPI implementations such as MPICH and LAMS
  • Knowledge of high-performance networking technologies such as Infiniband
  • Knowledge of high-performance computing techniques, graphics, and visualization
  • Experience with MySQL and/or PostgreSQL databases
  • Experience with software packaging, building software from source, and dynamic linking
  • Experience working in a Continuous Integration environment
  • Experience with software build tools such as CMake, Make, or Autotools
