Job Description

A growing manufacturing organization is seeking an Estimator/Technical Sales professional to manage the quoting process for custom, engineered-to-order fabrication and tooling projects — from initial customer inquiry through hand-off to production. This role sits at the intersection of technical sales, inside sales, and estimating, translating blueprints and customer requirements into accurate, competitive quotes.

Employment Type: Direct Hire
Salary: $70,000–$85,000
Location: Crystal Lake, IL 60014
Benefits: A comprehensive benefits package is offered, including medical, dental, vision, paid time off, paid holidays, 401(k) with company match, life insurance, and additional employee perks.

Key Responsibilities:
  • All products are engineered to order; manage approximately four to six active projects/quotes at a time
  • Review blueprints and specifications to gather the information needed to prepare quotes
  • Speak with customers by phone to clarify requirements and obtain missing information
  • Calculate and prepare accurate project quotes, estimates, and proposals, including material and labor cost evaluations from scratch
  • Review customer requirements and develop detailed project scopes to ensure proposed solutions align with manufacturing capabilities
  • Serve as the primary point of contact between customers and internal departments to confirm requirements and provide project updates
  • Generate and coordinate tooling work orders and project documentation for internal manufacturing teams
  • Work closely with engineering, purchasing, production, and quality teams to move projects efficiently through the quoting-to-manufacturing process
  • Track quote status and project timelines to ensure jobs move forward on schedule
  • Transfer completed quote and project information to the production team
  • Review completed projects and gather feedback to support continuous improvement and future quoting accuracy
  • Ensure all documentation, drawings, and specifications are maintained accurately throughout the quoting and project lifecycle
Qualifications:
  • Background in Technical Sales, Inside Sales, Sales Engineering, or Estimating
  • Must be able to read and interpret detailed blueprints, not just pictograms
  • Comfortable working in Microsoft Excel
  • Experience in a manufacturing, tooling, machining, or fabrication environment preferred
  • Epicor ERP experience helpful but not required — the company is currently implementing the system
  • Experience with CAD software (Inventor, AutoCAD, or similar) is a plus, but not required
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to coordinate across multiple departments

Qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability, or veteran status.
