Sterling Engineering is seeking an Engineering Designer to join a utility-focused team in Columbia, MD. The Engineering Designer will support electrical distribution design projects, with a strong preference for Exelon/BGE experience. This role is responsible for completing engineering design packages, working on Green Power Connection projects, and ensuring accuracy through internal QA/QC processes.
- Perform electrical distribution design for overhead and underground systems (Exelon/BGE experience preferred).
- Use MicroStation software to complete detailed design work.
- Work from approved engineering packages and deliver accurate design documentation.
- Design overhead and underground extensions in existing electrical distribution systems.
- Understand and apply overhead distribution design principles, including tensions and deflection angles.
- Read and interpret engineered diagrams of pole framings, overhead, and underground equipment to determine requirements and clearances.
- 2+ years of experience in electrical distribution design.
- Proficiency in MicroStation.
- Ability to review, interpret, and execute design packages with high accuracy.
- Knowledge of overhead/underground electrical systems and related equipment.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently.
