Job Description
Summary:
The Electrical Controls Engineer will perform the design, programming, documentation, testing, and commissioning of control system projects.
Responsibilities:
· Provides application/control systems design and development for systems of varying complexity.
· Electrical project management work directly with project PM and/or customers
· Assist and oversee the manufacturing of control panels
· Design and create electrical schematics for UL and CE listed industrial control panels using SolidWorks Electrical design software based on mechanical design specifications.
· Testing PLC and HMI programs on equipment in-house and onsite
· Service control support. Work with Field Service Techs to resolve control issues.
· Use ERP System to reference and control components
· Create new ERP System electrical parts and numbers and descriptions
· Troubleshooting of machinery operations and control circuits
· Supports all aspects of the project from concept to completion.
· Create PLC/HMI programs using Rockwell software – Studio 5000 Logix Designer, Studio 5000 View Designer, FactoryTalk View ME and SE, RSView and RSLogix 500.
· Able to create and support complex PLC and HMI programs.
· Develops proficiency in several programming languages and control device networks for PLCs, HMIs, VFDs, PCs, or DCS systems.
· Interacts with customers to gain an understanding of the business environment. Defines scope, plans and deliverables for assigned work.
· Works with a strong focus on customer service and personal growth.
· Effectively communicate engineering lead times and project status to project managers.
· Manage multiple projects to ensure results meet requirements regarding quality, schedule, and cost.
· Allocate resources effectively and fully utilize assets to produce optimal results.
· Stay up to date with latest Electrical Engineering management best practices and concepts.
· Effectively learn and utilize the ERP system
Qualifications:
· Minimum of a BS or MS in Electrical Controls Engineering or related discipline from an accredited college/university or equivalent experience.
· Minimum 3 years work experience in industrial controls and systems integration with a strong focus (50%) on software design and programming.
· Electrical drafting experience with strong attention to detail and accuracy. SolidWorks Electrical experience preferred. SolidWorks Electrical training provided.
· Ability to handle multiple tasks, have excellent attention to detail and be willing to learn new technologies quickly. Material handling or process control design, development and troubleshooting experience.
· Rockwell PLC programming experience with ControlLogix, CompactLogix, and MicroLogix processors.
· Rockwell HMI development experience.
· Familiar with Automation Direct’s CLICK programming software is a plus.
· Familiarity with Siemens hardware and software for troubleshooting and support is a plus.
· Networking experience including Ethernet/IP, ControlNet, and DeviceNet. With a strong emphasis on integrating multiple pieces of equipment and supervisory networks.
· Experience successfully interacting and working with customers at multiple levels of responsibility in a manufacturing or production environment.
· Have solid verbal and written communication skills.
· Development and troubleshooting experience of advanced motion control systems including multi-axis, coordinated axis applications is a plus. Experience with HMI, FactoryTalk and Rockwell platforms.
· Experience successfully managing technical projects through the entire project cycle including initiating, planning, executing, monitoring, commissioning and closing phases.
· Minimum 3 years work experience in industrial controls and systems integration with a strong focus (50%) on software design and programming.
· Must be self-motivated and able to work without direct supervision.
· Strong team building, quick decision-making and people management skills.
· Familiarity with industry standard equipment and technical expertise.
· Define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions from the groups with which the functional relationships exist. Interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical, diagrammatic, blueprint or verbal forms.
· Travel may be required: ~25%.
· Must display excellent mechanical and analytical skills
· Proficient use of software programs, MS Office (Excel, Word, Outlook), ERP/MRP system, planning/scheduling tools
· Good analytical skills in deciphering prints and communicating with customers
· Must be able to work independently and as a team
