EH&S Specialist
Job Description
- Facilitate the implementation and ongoing enhancement of Primary Energy EH&S Programs.
- Ensure compliance with all safety and environmental regulations and laws, including OSHA, IDEM, and Federal, State & Local Laws.
- Obtain necessary EH&S Training and Certifications to advance job capabilities and responsibilities.
- Organize, monitor, and conduct EH&S Training for plant personnel and contractor site orientation.
- Coordinate Plant Emergency Response and Disaster Preparedness Program, including conducting periodic evacuation drills.
- Manage Industrial Hygiene programs.
- Oversee annual medical surveillance and hearing conservation programs.
- Manage and organize SDS records.
- Schedule, oversee, facilitate completion, and close out environmental health and safety tasks within the company’s Compliance Management System (CMS).
- Report incidents, conduct incident investigations, and ensure timely follow-up on corrective action items until completion.
- Assist in environmental compliance programs such as RCRA/DOT, SPCC, Title V, and SARA.
- Maintain a proactive and positive liaison role with operators, contractors, host site safety representatives, and emergency responders.
- Lead weekly safety meetings with operators, record minutes, and monitor action items to completion.
- Conduct audits of contractor health and safety programs to ensure compliance with safety regulations and plant policies.
- Review and comprehend industrial host health and safety programs, ensuring alignment with or exceeding host requirements.
- Support insurance company inspections and due diligence efforts, and manage workers’ compensation claims.
Qualifications:
- Safety is a fundamental value, requiring a proactive and energetic attitude.
- Possession of a Bachelor’s degree in environmental, health, and safety discipline or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
- Demonstrated experience of 1-5 years in environmental and/or health and safety within an industrial setting.
- Willingness to undergo cross-training in other EHS functions if expertise is stronger in one area.
- Strong communication skills, capable of considering viewpoints from all team members.
- Self-motivated with the ability to work autonomously.
- Experience in handling Union relations and fostering a positive work environment.
- Establish and nurture collaborative relationships both internally and externally.
- Capable of lifting 50 pounds and comfortable navigating stairwells and ladders.
- Proficient in computer systems and applications.
- Familiarity with federal and state licenses and permits required for operations.
- Skilled in root cause analysis and incident investigation.
- Possession of a valid driver’s license.
