Travel: 25-30%

Sterling Engineering is looking for a Controls Engineer for a leading manufacturer of material handling systems. This is a great opportunity to work with a client that is a growing company and has a lot of growth opportunities for this individual. 

Job Duties:
  • Design and program automation and material handling systems
  • Develop PLC & HMI programs using Allen Bradley, Rockwell Automation, and Siemens TIA Portal
  • Design electrical architecture, control panels, and power distribution systems following NFPA 79, NEC, and UL508A standards
  • Integrate SCADA & MES systems (Ignition, FactoryTalk View SE) for industrial automation
  • Develop and implement MDR conveyor control strategies (Itoh Denki, Interroll)
  • Program and control linear & rotary actuators (pneumatic, hydraulic, electric)
  • Configure and troubleshoot VFDs, servo drives, and motor control systems
  • Design electrical schematics, panel layouts, and wiring diagrams using EPLAN or AutoCAD Electrical
  • Implement industrial communication networks (Ethernet/IP, PROFINET, Modbus, DeviceNet)
  • Oversee manufacturing and ensure compliance with specifications
  • Conduct system testing, debugging, and commissioning at customer sites
  • Ensure all designs meet industry safety and compliance standards (NFPA, NEC, UL508A, ISO 13849-1)
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, or related field
  • 5+ years of experience in electrical controls, PLC programming, and system integration
  • Expertise in Allen Bradley, Siemens TIA Portal, and FactoryTalk View
  • Experience in Eplan
  • Strong understanding of industrial networking and electrical design standards
  • Hands-on experience with MDR conveyor systems, SCADA/MES integration, and power distribution panels
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills
  • Ability to travel for field commissioning and customer support
