Sterling Engineering has an exciting new opportunity for a Civil Engineer in Portland, ME. The position is a full time opportunity, offering benefits!
Responsibilities
- Prepare calculations, schematic designs, layouts, reports, etc. for Energy infrastructure projects involving oil, gas, LNG, CNG, and propane systems and equipment.
- Contribute to teams that help clients meet the challenges of energy delivery system operation and development.
- Utilize various computer programs for data and information gathering, formula calculations, various studies and report generating and prepares written reports.
- Attend client meetings - days or nights.
- Analyze reports, maps, drawings, tests and aerial photographs to plan and design project.
- Direct and supervise work of drafters, technicians, and subcontractors.
- Project engineering that may include writing equipment specifications, sizing and evaluation of equipment, writing project reports, project scheduling, preparation of project cost estimates, the economic evaluation of projects, etc.
- Progress toward engineer licensure.
- Although not the primary responsibility of this position, when needed, an Engineer II has the ability to perform the responsibilities identified in the Engineer I job description.
- Perform other duties as assigned. Work Environment
- Must be able to work outdoors and on construction sites.
- The employee must be able to sit for prolonged periods of time and extended keyboard use and reading of computer screen.
- The employee is regularly required to stand, walk, use stairs, use hands, reach, talk and hear.
- The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
- May be requested to work overtime and weekends.

Key Qualifications
- Demonstrate ability to perform all key qualifications of an Engineer I.
- Proven experience in solving complex problems, identifying alternative solutions, project consequences of proposed actions and implement recommendations to support goals.
- Knowledge of principles and practices of engineering.
- Ability to lead a small team of engineers, field survey teams, designers, and/or drafters to complete project tasks.
- The ability to communicate effectively and foster/maintain relationships with clients.
Required Experience and Education
Bachelor’s degree in chemical, civil, electrical, chemical, survey, or mechanical engineering.
Two to seven years of experience.
EIT or Engineer Intern Certificate required.
