Civil / Structural Engineer
Job Description
- Perform civil structural design and analysis of Safety-Related and Non-Safety-Related Structures, Systems, and Components using advanced engineering tools.
- Review and develop technical information, including drawings, reports, specifications, and calculations, ensuring alignment with statements of work and requirement documents.
- Develop critical project documentation, such as requirements documents, design specifications, design reports, and technical studies.
- Coordinate design activities across multiple disciplines and with structural engineering consultants to resolve technical problems and ensure effective project execution.
- Oversee supplier deliverables to ensure all technical data meets the rigorous safety and quality standards required for plant design.
- Interact with regulatory bodies and contractors, utilizing strong written and oral communication skills to present technical findings and design reasoning.
- Implement appropriate standards for various material types, specifically focusing on reinforced concrete, steel, and foundation design.
- Adhere to a strict Safety Culture, modeling safe behavior and influencing peers to meet high standards in a rapidly evolving nuclear environment.
- Support Quality Assurance through the implementation of regulations and guidelines including 10 CFR 50 Appendix B, 10 CFR 21, and NQA-1.
- Identify and resolve problems in a timely manner, using independent judgment and gathering information appropriately for complex or sensitive situations.
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited school; a registered Professional Engineer (P.E.) license is strongly preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience as a Structural Design Engineer (nuclear or non-nuclear); an advanced degree may offset some years of experience.
- Concrete and steel design experience is required, including familiarity with foundation structural design and analysis.
- Strong understanding of industry codes, specifically ACI 349 & 318, ASCE 7, IBC, AISC N690, and the Seismic Design Manual.
- Proficiency in structural software, with preferred experience in ANSYS, LS-DYNA, and SAP2000; knowledge of ASME Section III is a plus.
- Preferred programming skills in Matlab or Python to support automated checks and data analysis.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to work cross-functionally and manage relationships with contractors and regulatory agencies.
- U.S. Industry Requirement eligibility to work under Department of Energy regulation 10 CFR Part 810.
