Civil / Structural Engineer (Contract)
Job Description
- Lead and manage the civil structural design of Nuclear Safety-Related and Non-Safety-Related SSCs.
- Continuously analyze and review technical information including drawings, reports, specifications, and calculations to ensure alignment with requirements.
- Organize and balance multidisciplinary design activities, coordinating with structural consultants to resolve technical problems effectively.
- Identify and resolve complex engineering challenges through the application of technical knowledge, insight, and reasoning.
- Implement appropriate standards and structural engineering tools to design for various material types, specifically reinforced concrete and steel.
- Develop and author critical technical documentation, including requirements documents, design specifications, design reports, and feasibility studies.
- Ensure the consistent production of high-quality designs that meet stringent industry regulations and quality assurance standards.
- Collaborate with regulatory bodies and contractors, utilizing strong written and oral communication skills to manage external interfaces.
- Drive and implement Quality Assurance regulations, adhering to standards and guidelines such as 10 CFR 50 Appendix B, 10 CFR 21, and NQA-1.
- Prepare and review statements of work and oversee supplier technical data to ensure full compliance with plant design management.
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited school is required; an advanced degree is a plus.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience as a Structural Design Engineer with a focus on concrete, steel, and foundation design.
- Registered Professional Engineer (P.E.) license is strongly preferred.
- Strong understanding of nuclear and structural codes, including ACI 349 & 318, ASCE 7, IBC, and AISC N690.
- Excellent proficiency in structural analysis software such as ANSYS, LS-DYNA, or SAP2000; MATLAB or Python programming skills are a plus.
- Demonstrated ability to work on large-scale reinforced concrete and steel buildings, with specific knowledge of ASME Sect III.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to function effectively on multi-disciplinary teams and maintain a high safety culture.
