Job Summary:
Performs calibrations of instruments that measure the characteristics of objects, substances, or phenomena, such as pressure, temperature, time, force, torque, speed, flow, electric current, voltage, resistance, and derived units of physical, mechanical, or chemical measures. Identifies magnitude of error sources contributing to uncertainty of results to determine reliability of measurement process in quantitative terms.
Job Duties:
- Performs calibrations on products as well as customer’s measuring instruments.
- Quantifies sources of measurement error and determines measurement uncertainty with TUR’s.
- Prepares calibration reports which detail; methods, measurement data with uncertainties, TUR’s, and NIST traceability.
- Communicates with customers to resolve “technical” contract disputes or issues.
- Assists customers with measurement and NIST traceability questions.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED from an accredited higher learning institution required. PMEL or other military/technical education highly preferred.
- Basic understanding of hand tools and electronics
- Must have mechanical/electrical aptitude, particularly finer electronics
- Must have analytical skills to identify sources of measurement error and to read and interpret technical schematics, specifications and calibration procedures.
- Must have good communication skills to respond to metrology questions in writing or orally, in a clear, concise manner.
- Must be able to work independently and as part of a team.
- Thrives in a fast-paced, collaborative environment, efficiently works under pressures, within deadlines or other time essential constraints.
