CNC Machinist (Hicks)
Job Description
- 2nd: 3:00 PM – 11:30 PM (Monday – Friday, some Saturdays for OT)
- 3rd: 11:00 PM – 7:00 AM (Sunday – Thursday, some Fridays for OT)
A CNC Machinist is responsible for a variety of machine-specific functions—from setting up equipment, loading materials, and operating machinery, to monitoring efficiency, maintaining machines, and performing quality checks. The role requires knowledge and ability to operate and maintain multiple machines.
- Operate various machines to produce parts for the locomotive industry in accordance with AAR, customer specifications, and company guidelines.
- Operate manual machines including horizontal mills, engine lathes, and manual grinders to produce locomotive motor parts and axles.
- Use precision gauges and instruments such as micrometers to ensure parts meet customer specifications.
- Maintain specifications through turning, facing, knurling, thread chasing, drilling, grooving, cutting, measuring, troubleshooting, and adjusting controls.
- Sharpen and replace worn tools while adhering to quality assurance procedures.
- Operate overhead cranes and forklifts.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Complete tasks within established time standards.
- Skill Level IV – 5+ years of experience in technical machining or equivalent specific experience.
- High level of machining aptitude.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and drawings.
- Strength: Lifting up to 35 lbs.
- Motion: Standing majority of the day, frequent walking, squatting, kneeling, and climbing steps/stairs.
- Vision/Hearing Requirements: Exposure to high noise, vibration, cutting torches, and welding operations; PPE required. Ability to read QWI and schematics.
- Work Environment: State-of-the-art, temperature-controlled facility.
- Emotional Demands: Work cooperatively as part of a team to meet production requirements.
- Safety: Use of all PPE required.
