Job Description:
A CMM/ Gage Technician is familiar with high volume CMM Inspection and gage calibration. Microsoft Office and SPC in a manufacturing environment. A Gage/CMM Technician performs setups and operates Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMM), maintains gage calibrations and certifications.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Read and analyze prints and interpret GD&T inspection
  • Perform gage calibrations and operating calibration equipment
  • Identifying and locating gages due for calibration
  • Maintain database for gages
  • Create standard work documents and gage-related procedures
  • Setup and operate programs on a Coordinate Measuring Machine
  • Setup parts on CMM machines using modular fixtures and pre-described Standard Work instructions
  • Operate CMM and PCMM equipment with PC-DMIS 2015 CAD ++ or later versions
  • Manage the operation of multiple CMM machines at one time
  • Interact closely with Operations, Manufacturing Engineering, Tool Design and Global Purchasing
  • Conduct hard gaging of product
  • Execute to part inspection sequences, priorities, and schedules
  • Document daily issues and production results in an organized fashion
  • Train others on the operation of CMM equipment, gages and procedures
  • Participate/Facilitate Fast Track DMAIC investigations as needed
  • Conduct 5S audits and execute to 5S expectations in the work area
  • Validate Standard Work Changes
  • Participates in SFMEA activities
  • Notify supervisors and other personnel of nonconforming material, and assist in identifying and correcting these problems
  • Transport very heavy loads with crane or pallet jack
Advanced duties and responsibilities:
  • Responsible for facilitating daily/weekly/monthly production-related activities across 3-10 CMM Technicians and 4-5 CMM machines
  • Responsible to qualify new employees across all assets in the CMM Labs (ie: PMM-G, Global, and Romer)
  • Fills in for other team members as required (trained and capable of running ALL operations in the assigned area at minimum)
  • Empowered to solve any quality, staffing, safety, production and system related issues and escalate them if needed to the immediate attention of the supervisor
  • Help determine and maintain processing needs to assure fixtures, tooling and methods are provided to meet schedules
  • Help develop, maintain, and make changes to the Standard Work documents used within the CMM labs
  • First point-of-contact for CMM technicians with concerns about safety, workload, or training
  • Participates in RIWs for their assigned area of responsibility
  • Responsible to follow CI board and process as needed
  • Interface closely with Operations, Manufacturing Engineering to resolve issues, scheduling and escalation
  • Document daily issues and production results in an organized fashion and communicate to supervisor
Education and Training:
  • Skill Level I – 0-2 years of experience or BS/BA or Technical Degree
  • Skill Level II – 2-5 years of experience or Specific Experience or Technical Certifications
  • Skill Level III – 5+ years of experience, Technical or specific experience
Qualifications and Experience:
  • Experience inspecting client Lower Powertrain components as well as client heavy equipment engine components utilizing CMMs and gauging
  • Experience as CMM Technician at CAM Facility
  • Familiarity with ISO and Quality Management System Requirements
  • Experience with Manual Horizontal Measurement Machines
  • Experience calibrating, documenting and issuing/receiving various types of gages
  • Experience reading Blueprint Reading & GD&T
  • Proficiency using common shop Gages (Micrometers, Calipers, and Indicators)
  • Knowledgeable with CPS Tools: C.I. Card Process, 5S, Stop-to-Fix, Andon System
Preferred Skills:
  • Knowledge of ISO/TS/CQMS Standards
  • GD&T and print reading proficiency
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Applications (Excel, Power Point, Word)
  • Ability to maintain Gage Databases is a plus
  • Proficient operating PC-DMIS measurement Software
  • 2-3 years of CMM operations, equipment use and process execution
  • 3-4 years inspection experience in Manufacturing Environment
  • Blueprint Reading
