Job Summary:
The Commissioning Engineer is responsible for providing engineering and technical support to plan, schedule, coordinate, and execute full life cycle commissioning of critical facilities, while under direct supervision. This position is also responsible for participating in the Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MEP) design process, witnessing and/or performing the static and dynamic testing of mechanical, electrical, and controls systems, and for operating the system in normal, maintenance, and failure modes of operations by performing the following duties.
Job Duties:
- Assists in the development of commissioning plans.
- Assists in engineering design reviews.
- Interprets design and specification under direct supervision.
- Works in conjunction with senior engineers to fully understand scope and design as well as resolve issues, when necessary.
- Reviews shop drawings and submittals under direct supervision.
- Develops MEP test procedures and operating procedures under direct supervision.
- Provides input in the development of site-specific load bank plans and commissioning schedules.
- Witnesses and/or performs the static and dynamic testing of MEP Systems, while under direct supervision, with examples that include chiller plants, air handling equipment, pumps, UPS systems, switchgear, and ATS switches.
- Conducts site observation surveys and prepares field reports on the status of projects and completion of projects with respect to compliance to the plans and specifications, while under direct supervision.
- Prepares daily reports, issue logs, and identifies corrective measures for on-site problems affecting commissioning, while under supervision.
- Familiarizes oneself with site specific requirements, as well as the latest equipment and functional concepts.
- Follows all project specific safety requirements, specific on-site regulations, and company specific safety requirements and protocols.
- Performs routine calculations.
- Seeks to obtain and maintain accreditations pertinent to position.
- Assists the project manager in the reasonable execution of project tasks.
- Receives instruction from senior engineers and ensures proper execution of assigned tasks.
- Participates in professional trade associations and societies.
- Performs various administrative duties.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree from four-year college or university (Construction, Architecture, or Engineering discipline preferred).
- 2 to 4 years of related experience and/or training in commissioning of building mechanical, electrical, & plumbing (MEP) systems.
- Prior experience with Electrical and Mechanical testing equipment, as applicable.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
- Ability to speak effectively in front of customers and employees of an organization.
- Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
- Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
