Sterling Engineering is looking for an Assistant Quality Manager for an injection mold client of ours in Elgin, IL. This role supports a growing manufacturing operation with both automotive and industrial components, serving major customers within the industry. 

Job Duties:
  • Support and oversee daily quality operations across all production shifts
  • Supervise 24 quality team members including Quality Technicians, Auditors, and Final Inspectors
  • Drive compliance with IATF 16949 and ISO standards for automotive customers
  • Lead and participate in internal and external quality audits
  • Oversee PPAP, metrology, and documentation activities for injection molding operations
  • Provide technical guidance and training for quality personnel on measurement, inspection, and reporting
  • Partner closely with production and engineering teams to identify root causes, corrective actions, and process improvements
  • Maintain quality systems and ensure compliance with customer-specific requirements (Automotive and Industrial sectors)
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance quality performance and reduce customer complaints
  • Lead efforts in product validation, visual inspection processes, and plastic component sorting for filters and molded parts
  • Act as a key liaison for customer quality issues and audits
Qualifications:
  • 5+ years of experience in Quality Engineering or Quality Management in a manufacturing environment
  • Injection molding and plastics experience required
  • Strong knowledge of PPAP, APQP, IATF, and ISO standards
  • Previous leadership or supervisory experience managing quality teams
  • Hands-on problem-solving and metrology experience
  • Strong communication and cross-functional collaboration skills
  • Experience supporting automotive customers highly preferred
