Applications Technician – CNC Grinding (ID/OD)

Location: Flexible / Travel-Based
Travel: 60–80% (including overnight)
Compensation: $90,000–$100,000 base salary, DOE

Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Applications Technician with a strong background in CNC grinding, ideally ID/OD grinding, to support customer applications, process development, and training activities. This role is highly hands-on and customer-facing, combining technical expertise with collaboration across applications, sales, and service teams.
The ideal candidate enjoys troubleshooting, teaching, and optimizing machining processes while spending significant time on the road supporting customers and demonstrations.

Key Responsibilities
Technical & Applications Support
  • Prepare, set up, and operate CNC grinding equipment (ID/OD preferred)
  • Perform machine demonstrations, test grinds, time studies, feasibility studies, runoffs, and process development
  • Review customer requirements and collaborate with Applications and Sales teams to determine proper tooling, grinding wheels, and process selection
  • Assist with prototype machine PLC and mechanical/control software testing
  • Demonstrate and instruct proper techniques, methods, and procedures for machine tools and related accessories
  • Provide technical phone and remote support (phone, video, email) to customers, sales teams, and distributors
  • Utilize internal resources to resolve service or application issues as needed
  • Escalate service or application concerns to management when appropriate
Training & Customer Interaction
  • Conduct and facilitate training classes both in-house and at customer or distributor sites
  • Support customers through on-site and off-site application development
  • Maintain strong communication with internal teams regarding application activities and outcomes
Documentation & Administration
  • Complete detailed reports following runoffs, test grinds, training sessions, and application activities
  • Maintain organized documentation of application procedures and processes
  • Submit application billings and expense reports accurately and on time
  • Communicate follow-up actions through written reports and electronic tools
  • Be available for after-hours support for key customers and internal teams as needed
Continuous Improvement
  • Adhere to company policies and procedures
  • Identify opportunities to improve application processes and productivity
  • Support overall operational efficiency and company performance
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by management
Qualifications
  • Minimum 1 year of CNC experience, preferably in ID/OD grinding
  • Ability to set up and operate grinding/CNC equipment independently
  • Working knowledge of Fanuc and/or Siemens controls
  • Fluent in reading, writing, and modifying CNC programs
  • Strong blueprint and CAD interpretation skills
  • Experience working to close tolerances (imperial and metric)
  • Solid understanding of inspection techniques, tools, and gauges
    (micrometers, vernier calipers, etc.)
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to travel extensively (60–80%)
  • Must maintain good standing with corporate credit card requirements
  • This position is not eligible for visa sponsorship
